Civil engineering master's student Abbie Snyder describes what she experienced abroad as part of Rensselaer's Bedford Program, which consists of two courses (one seminar and one studio) that pair up architecture and structural engineering students for various design projects. After completing the courses, students are invited to apply for the end-of-year Bedford Traveling Workshop, which is designed to showcase feats of architect and engineer collaboration around the world.
Hudson Valley Community College is partnering with Rensselaer to offer a unique four-credit course, Introduction to Robotics, to begin during the fall semester. The hands-on course (CISS 180) will be co-taught by professors from both institutions (Dean O'Dell and Linda Lim from HVCC, Kimberly Oakes and Glenn Saunders from RPI) and introduce students to the multi-disciplinary field of robotics, using state-of-the-art industrial robots from FANUC and Universal Robots.
The Rensselaer men's hockey program and head coach Dave Smith have announced the eight incoming roster additions for the Engineers' upcoming 2023-24 season. The class consists of four freshman and four transfers; positionally, the Engineers add six forwards and two defenseman to the lineup.
Alzheimer's is a neurodegenerative disease – which means the disease is characterized by loss of brain density or a loss of brain cells – that affects six million Americans, or more than three times as many people in this country than all forms of cancer combined. So why aren't we talking about it more?
It was announced earlier this month that four Rensselaer student-athletes – Matt Buckley, Thomas Fraser, Joey Harrigan, and Jacob Lindsay – have been named Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholars for NCAA Division III, and are among those recognized for their success on the course and in the classroom.
Kara Bacon, a senior from Warrensburg High School, and Hannah Price, a senior from Rensselaer, received Grand honors at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Event held at the GE Theatre at Proctors on August 7. The event also honored 11 other female student-athletes from the region, who made up CDSWOY's Class of 2023.
Rensselaer's strength and conditioning staff has increased with the addition of Alex Houston as an assistant coach who will work with a variety of RPI's 23 intercollegiate sports under the tutelage of head strength and conditioning coach Jordan Baum.
The Rensselaer women's soccer team opens its 2023 schedule with two home games, beginning on Friday, September 1, which is the first allowable date for competition as per the NCAA. Coached by Bre Nasypany-Cicero, the Engineers will host SUNY Cortland at 7pm in their debut before hosting SUNY New Paltz on September 3 at 4pm.
