Rensselear Architecture continues its spring 2023 lecture series on Wednesday, March 29 with a lecture by Beals Lyon Arquitectos.
After living and studying in London, in 2012 Loreto Lyon and Alejandro Beals founded the architecture studio BEALS LYON ARQUITECTOS, an independent practice whose more recent work includes private houses, the winning installation for the Chilean version of the YAP 2012/2013 (MoMA – PS1 Young Architects’ Program) and winning proposals for public buildings, such as a council building in Central Chile and the ‘New Library of National Congress’, in Santiago’s historical centre.
Their work has been widely published in books and magazines, such as ‘Blanca Montaña’ (Ed. Puro Chile), ‘Wood Architecture Now!’(Taschen), ORIS, ARQ, Trace, Summa+, 2G Dossier and The Architectural Review. In 2016 Ediciones ARQ publishes the monograph ‘Beals Lyon Arquitectos: Public Voids’, featuring a selection of works about public architecture
Their work was selected for the Architectural Biennial of Santiago (2008), the Pan-American Quito Biennial (2009) and the London Festival of Architecture (2013), where they showcased the project for the New National Congress Library in the exhibition ‘Atlas of the Unbuilt World’, curated by the British Council. In 2013 they exhibited at the MoMA in New York and MAXXI in Rome, as winners of the Chilean version of the MoMA-PS1 Young Architects Program 2012 (YAP-CONSTRUCTO). Also in 2013, they are nominees for the ‘Lisbon Triennale Début Award’ and the “Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative’. In 2016 the project ‘Nancagua Town Hall’ is nominated for the ‘MCHAP Emerge Prize 2014/15’ (IIT Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize).
We look forward to seeing you at this lecture.
