Dr. Marlene Belfort: "Navigating Scientific Challenges"

Date: Thursday, April 9, 2026 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Prof. Marlene Belfort, born in Cape Town to German-Jewish refugees, studied biochemistry and microbiology at the University of Cape Town, earned her PhD at UC Irvine, and completed postdoctoral work in Jerusalem and at Northwestern. A member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and an award-winning scientist, she is now a Distinguished Professor at the University at Albany, SUNY, known for research on introns and inteins and for advocating for women in science.
