From Every Day Matters: Circles in the Sky
With summer officially just around the corner, fairs and carnivals will soon be cropping up across the nation, and a highlight of any midway is the Ferris wheel. Designed by George W. G. Ferris, who graduated from Rensselaer in 1881, the iconic wheel is marking its 130th anniversary this year, having made its debut at the World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893.
EMPAC Announces the Appointment of Katherine C.M. Adams as Assistant Curator
Adams will lead and support curatorial projects across the time-based arts and build out other aspects of EMPAC’s programming. The expanded curatorial team will maintain its overall approach encompassing music, time-based visual art, and dance/theater as well as its emphasis on commissions, residencies, and publications with US and international artists.
Softball's Askins Earns All-American Nod
TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball graduate student Erin Askins added more hardware to her shelf after a successful 2023 spring, as she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Third Team on Thursday morning.
Ten Earn XC / T&F Academic All-District
TROY, N.Y. - The 2022-23 Academic All-District Cross Country / Track & Field Teams, as selected by College Sports Communicators, have been announced and 10 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been honored.
Drover-Mattinen Earns Academic All-America
The 2022-23 Academic All-America Men's Tennis Teams have been announced by College Sports Communicators, and Rensselaer student-athlete Aiden Drover-Mattinen is among those recognized. A sophomore majoring in computer science with a 3.66 cumulative grade point average, Drover-Mattinen was tabbed with Third Team honors.
Marintchev Earns Two All-Region Honors
TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball senior Martin Marintchev racked up the awards on Tuesday afternoon, as the Engineers first baseman earned two All-Region awards. He scored an All-Region First Team selection from d3baseball.com, while also earning ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team honors as well.
Liberty League Recognizes Lecky & McGuinn
TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League announced its weekly award winners and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes Matt Lecky and Emma McGuinn have been selected. This is the third honor for Lecky this outdoor season and the fifth for McGuinn, both of whom run track.
Lecky & Kennedy Earn All-America on Track
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Matt Lecky finished third in the 1500 meters and Cory Kennedy was sixth in the 5000 meters at the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship and both earned National All-America with their finishes. It is the sixth all-time All-America for Lecky, a senior, and the third for Kennedy, a junior.
McGuinn Competes in 100m Hurdles at NCAA’s
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) track and field squad had two compete in the second day of the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship, with Emma McGuinn the representative for the women in the 100 meter hurdle prelims.
