Friday, March 14, 2025 - Rπ Giving Day will take place online, and will help support our students, our teams and student-athletes, our clubs and activities, fraternities and sororities, scholarships, and our area of greatest need – the Annual Fund. There will be competitions among your favorite teams all day long, as well as challenges and matches, and prize drawings, so be sure to join in the fun! Merrill Whitburn Wins Everett Lee Hunt Award of the Eastern Communication Association

Merrill Whitburn, currently Professor Emeritus and formerly Louis Ellsworth Laflin Professor of English and, for 13 years, Chair of the Department of Language, Literature, and Communication, has won the Everett Lee Hunt Award of the Eastern Communication Association for his book "America's Great Age of Rhetoric, 1770-1860: Advocacy, Conceptualization, Institutionalization" (2024). He will be presented the award at the annual ECA Convention in Buffalo on March 29. Hunt was a notable professor of rhetoric at Cornell University.

Wednesday, March 12, 2025 6:00 PM. All are invited to Flesh/Flash: Scanning as Moving Image, a program of experimental film and open conversation with artist P. Staff at the culmination of their EMPAC residency. P. Staff reveals their current research using innovative techniques—from holographic images, thermal cameras, Lidar, and audio, to techniques inspired by afferent neurons—to generate politically charged data. Join us and discover the hidden layers behind the scan.

Wednesday / March 12, 2025 at 6:00 pm P. Staff shares their current work in Flesh/Flash: Scanning as Moving Image, a brief screening and open conversation at the culmination of their EMPAC residency. The artist’s research is exploring the act of scanning—as an image practice, as a mechanism of power and surveillance, and as a monitoring of bodily states. Scanning’s capacity to produce moving images without standard film techniques is tied to its ability to orchestrate the body politic—probing the insides of things, organic as well as social.
