Celebrating Our Recognition as a Most Promising Place to Work in Student Affairs

The Division of Student Experience has been nationally recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs awarded by College Student Educators International (ACPA) and the EDU Ledger. Each year, only a select number of colleges and universities nationwide receive this distinction, underscoring its highly competitive and selective nature. This year, RPI was honored as one of just 30 institutions to earn this award.

RPI Team Places 4th in Lockheed Martin Ethics in Engineering Case Competition!

In February two RPI undergraduate students, Nyati Misra '27 (BMED) and John Weller '27 (AERO), placed in the Top 4 out of 72 schools nationwide! They represented RPI with exceptional analytical rigor, professionalism, and ethical depth. Throughout the competition, they demonstrated remarkable composure, clarity of thought, and principled decision-making, serving as outstanding ambassadors for RPI. Dr. Azita Hirsa served as their faculty advisor for this competition. To learn more about the event, please reach out to Dr. Azita Hirsa at hirssa3@rpi.edu.

Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy Colloquium: Dr. Julian Georg, RPI

Wednesday, March 11, 2026 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Title: The Cosmic Microwave Background Explained for Everyone Abstract: The Universe is permeated by photons that are cosmological in origin and almost as old as the Universe itself. They are what we call the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). In this talk, I will describe how we observe the CMB and what information we can extract from it, as well as explain the physics behind it. This talk is explicitly aimed undergraduate students regardless of their major.

Faculty Spotlight on Research & Impact webinar series-Jennifer Pazour

Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2026 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM - Systems that Amplify What if we could better harness people’s willingness to contribute? While humans are often eager to help, without scaled coordination, their efforts don’t always translate into stronger outcomes. Prof. Pazour will talk about how Industrial & Systems Engineering can amplify human contributions through the design of new systems, optimization approaches, and technologies that unlock underutilized capacity.

CEE Seminar Series - Dr. Weilan Zhang Assistant Professor University of Albany, State University of NY

Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2026 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM - Numerous sites across the country are currently receiving, or have previously received, PFAS-containing biosolids for land application. Such practice could lead to PFAS contamination in receiving soils and adjacent waters, threatening ecosystems and human health. Recently, we investigated the levels of PFAS in biosolid-amended soil, their migration to surrounding surface water bodies, and bioaccumulation in plants near land application sites. Further details provided during the seminar.

Math Colloquium: Dr. Shukai Du from Syracuse University

Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2026 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM - This Mathematical Sciences Colloquium will feature a presentation titled "Accelerating finite element methods via machine learning on a single element" by Dr. Shukai Du. He is an assistant professor at Syracuse University, and his research interests include Numerical analysis, scientific machine learning, and inverse problems.
